Broadfield Systems is an independent research practice covering hard asset businesses and special situations.
The Approach
The work starts with the financial statements reading the filings closely rather than starting from a summary. What the numbers actually say. How the accounting choices shape the reported results. Where the disclosures and the story management tells do not line up with consensus.
That approach fits the kind of company covered. Small to medium businesses with few analysts often have accounting worth reading carefully, because nobody else is reading it.
What Makes the Cut
Mining, energy, industrials, and shipping. Businesses that own physical assets and operate in cyclical industries where the swing between good and bad years is wide.
Three themes come up repeatedly. Manufacturing returning to the United States. Energy infrastructure and the buildout that supports it. Defense industrial capacity and the supply chains behind it.
Special situations outside those areas get covered when the analysis is strong enough to justify the detour. The sector matters less than whether there is something the market has gotten wrong.
